One of our most popular curricula is Web Design, which teaches students how to use HTML5 and CSS3 to build websites from the ground up. We engage them with the technical skills they need to make high-performing sites and feature interviews with working professionals to put the technical skills students are learning into an industry context. We make it all relevant to their futures through the portfolios they build and the international industry-recognized certification they can earn from Web Professionals Global – the international professional association for all things web.
Students love the interactive and engaging tutorial videos that teach them broader concepts of aesthetics, design, content development and managing a web design team. Along the way, they learn critical STEM skills, develop confidence, and build a college and career-ready portfolio. This is an exciting introduction and a great first step toward advanced education or their career. This course requires no teacher expertise – we provide training to prepare teachers to administer this turnkey curricula.
The U.S. Department of Labor predicts the web design industry will grow by 27% per year, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Searching the job posting sites, you will find web designer median pay around $64,970 per year ($31.23 per hour), with the top 25% of web designers averaging $95,020. National averages indicate that one in seven web developers are selfâemployed. The main reason for this high growth is the growing demand for new websites and website revisions, as over 500,000 new websites come online every day worldwide.
We have expanded the lessons in reactive design and mobile first concepts. Since we first wrote this curricula, a shift has happened where the majority of internet searches are now on mobile devices. These changes reflect this shift. We also have expanded the project management training in the curricula in response to teacher demand. Our expanded lessons also help support learners who may have their sights set on competing in SkillsUSA Web Design state or national events. If you are a SkillsUSA school and want to learn more about our curricular approach, make sure to reach out to us.
Many of our schools combine the Web Design course with other courses. One of the common pairings is Web Design with the newly updated
Hybrid and Remote Working Professional certification. This is a short course and helps students prepare for the new normal of tech work. Today, approximately 44% of American workers are working in a hybrid model where they are part0time in an office and part-time remotely. Are your students ready for this new norm? Giving your students the additional industry certification for hybrid and remote work will help them show future employers that they have the training, knowledge and flexibility to succeed.
Angelica, Student, Web Design and Hybrid and Remote Working Professional
“The two courses in conjunction with each other really sets you up for success and prepares you for an independent career in web design. I think for me personally the web design course taught me the fundamentals and technical skills for the web design industry while the remote worker course prepared me for the materials, expectations, organization, and overall standard practices for remote web designers entering a remote workforce.”
Heather, Teacher, Chanhassen High School, Web Design
“12 of my students earned the Web Designer Certification from Web Professionals Global. Most of my students are more used to hearing about AP and credits. However, they understand the world of work is changing, especially in tech, and many are interested in getting into careers without pursuing a four-year degree. The international industry-recognized certifications look good on college applications for my students who are going that route and open doors for those who want to go directly into the workforce. I love this embedded approach for certifications. It more closely follows how industry rewards achievement by measuring student aptitude for building things, not for test-taking. It is nice to be able to help students to have real choices for their futures. The parents see the value of our students finding out now what career pathways they might be interested in pursuing (and those they aren’t interested in). They realize we are helping their kids learn about themselves and their career goals, and they love the fact that their students are taking career prep courses without the family needing to spend money on university courses for something the kid won’t do.”
Kerry, Student, SunEd High School, Web Design
“I am working hard to earn my Web Design certification. Ms. Grayson has told us how certifications help set us up for our futures. This class makes me feel good. I will have more than just my high school diploma, because this is something that will set me apart. Whatever I decide to do for my work and my career, I will have this. I mean, I am already here at school. This opportunity is here. So, instead of doing nothing, I am doing something for myself and my future. Yeah, it's a lot of fun. So I'm enjoying it.”
Jeff, Teacher, Web Design, Web and Mobile Game Design, and Web Animation
“It’s been nice, because with learning, the way teachers teach and the way students learn has changed. I can guide each of my students through the courses as slow or as fast as I want, as each student learns at a different speed. I don’t have to implement a one-size fits all curriculum and hope that everyone can keep up at the same pace. I have kids that really ‘get it,’ and I don’t want to slow them down. With CTe Learning’s courses, they can keep learning at their own pace, and I can jump in to help if needed.”
Kiaizah, Student, Web Design Certification Recipient
“I am used to being very hands-on when learning. I also didn’t know how it would go being self-paced. But I love how the course has text and video explanations for everything to make it easier to understand. And after I learned something new, I was able to immediately practice it with the coding sandbox feature. This allowed me to really take my time and learn each step.”
