STEM in Action – The next generation of App Entrepreneurs and Developers are getting their start in Biglerville Pa.

As part of the launch for this STEM new course, Jacalyn McAnlis arranged for two of the developers of the course to have a webinar with her students to talk about the App industry and how to avoid some of the pitfalls that are easy for a first-time developer to fall into. The students had the chance to ask questions from the seasoned veterans and learn, first hand, about the excitement, being part of this high-demand highly creative STEM career.

The students at Biglerville are so fortunate for this opportunity. During the webinar, the students also learned about an international competition they may submit one of their apps or games to at the end of the semester in the hopes of bringing more honors home to BHS.

This is a first in the region.

Jacalyn McAnlis has deployed CTeLearning.com’s new Web and Mobile Application Design with JS industry certification course. Not only are her students learning how to use JavaScript, but they are learning how to take that knowledge and turn it into Web and Mobile Apps – Apps they are learning to create in order and potentially sell on the web or in an app store. These new tech creators will also have the chance to sit for an optional industry certification at the end of the course. So, imagine the students’ excitement at not only knowing how to create a top selling app, but also walk away with a college and career-ready portfolio and a set of industry credentials to back it all up.

Biglerville is certainly creating a STEM environment to prepare future-ready students with the kind of real-world education that companies are looking for.

Part of what is driving this is Ms. McAnlis’ understanding of some Department of Labor stats, which tell us that there will be 1 million unfilled Computer Science jobs in the U.S. in 2020. She, however, wants to give her students the chance to try out this high-demand STEM / STEAM career field.

Congrats to Ms. McAnlis and all her students for getting started in this exciting course.
